Welcome to Graves Chapel in Madison, Virginia
Graves Chapel was established in 1885 as a Baptist church, part of the Shiloh Mission. Now, under the auspices of the Episcopal church, the chapel is an ecumenical center of worship. Members of the Graves Chapel council and those who worship here come from different faith backgrounds, but our goal is unity. Graves Chapel also serves as a vibrant center of community for the families of this historic area and the region at large, hosting meetings, workshops, lectures, movie nights, dinners, dances, and many special events throughout the year.
We hold evening prayer service at 4 pm on the second Sunday and the last Sunday of each month. If that Sunday is a fifth Sunday, we have a potluck dinner to follow the service. We also sponsor many annual events to draw the community together, including Easter vigils, Thanksgiving harvest services, Christmas carol sings, and a Christmas dinner.
Graves Chapel has been the site of weddings, baptisms, and funerals. Please ask us if you would like to hold an event in the chapel. We are open to serving your needs if we can.
Please note the contact page if you would like more information. We welcome contributions to our mission and the upkeep of Graves Chapel.
Our motto comes from Isaiah 56:
"All who keep the sabbath and hold fast my covenant,
these will I bring to my holy mountain
and make them joyful in my house of prayer.
For my house shall be called a house of prayer for all people."
